This cheap, prime lens is a fellwalker’s friend
I wanted a very reasonably priced prime lens that I could attach to my Fujifilm X-T30 that would make a compact companion whilst fellwalking. I took it out for the first time yesterday and used it on an enjoyable walk to the summit of Glaramara in the English Lake District.
This small lens does not look out of place on the equally small X-T30. It’s hard to complain about a prime lens that can be bought new for around the £50 mark and produces images of more than acceptable quality. Don’t expect Fujinon XF levels of sharpness and resolution, but do expect a light, well-made, stepless twelve blade aperture giving a reasonably wide field of view and some decent images. If I whack the damn thing off a crag, I am not going to cry too much at this price. Manual focusing, even with peaking, takes some practice, but I’ll get there.
By Gum Chris, the weather conditions up there look rather bleak. Love the shots of what looks like hoar frost. A baptism of ice for the new lens, frozen fingers would make focus peaking a tough call.
