About
I’m Christopher Pattison, an English amateur photographer, researcher and writer from the North East. My work has been featured in exhibitions such as the annual Connected exhibition at Patchings Arts Centre, the Landscape Photographer of the Year exhibition at the National Theatre, and All Washed Up at Hartlepool Central Library.
My photographs have appeared in Amateur Photographer and Outdoor Photography magazines, and I’ve written photograph-illustrated articles for On Landscape, 35MMC, and Edge of Humanity.
I don’t confine myself to a single photographic genre—I simply capture anything I find interesting using both film and digital cameras. These explorations often lead to projects, though my creative process remains open-ended.
Over time, I’ve accidentally become a collector of film cameras, finding joy in owning, using, and writing about cameras that represent milestones in the evolution of photography. I’ve also come to appreciate cameras not just as tools but as objects of beauty and engineering marvels.
Welcome to Shutterlogue
This site represents a new chapter for me. I’ve decided to bring together all my interests—formerly scattered across different platforms—into one place: Shutterlogue. Along with my love for photography, this site will explore the history of film photography, the history of early plastics, photography during World War I, and aspects of local history.
The content from Retro Film Camera, which focused on landmark cameras in the history of photography, has been amalgamated here. You’ll still find information about key cameras, presented chronologically by decade and organized by type or their landmark status, but now it’s part of a broader narrative.
My Approach
With Shutterlogue, I aim to produce content that is concise, visually appealing, and easy to navigate. I’m committed to making complex histories accessible and engaging while retaining a structured approach. Whether you’re a fellow photography enthusiast, a history buff, or simply curious, I hope you’ll find something here to enjoy.
Accessible Content
Making the site accessible remains a priority. Shutterlogue has been tested with the ChromeVox screen reader and the Wave web accessibility evaluation tool to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy the content. There are improvements to be made.
